Bringing Relief Closer to Home

A New Solution for Men’s Common Health Issue

For decades, our community has rallied to support women’s health through generous donations to powerful programs like MAMMO on the Go and Women Helping Women, as well as a shared commitment to ensuring the women we love have access to the care they need.

Now, it is time to do the same for the men in our lives.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate, affects nearly half of all men over the age of 50. Its symptoms, including frequent bathroom trips, interrupted sleep, and a constant feeling like the bladder is not entirely empty after urinating, are more than a nuisance; they can significantly disrupt daily life. And yet, BPH remains one of the most undertreated conditions impacting men as they age, in part due to lingering apprehension around traditional medications and procedures.

The Pardee Hospital Foundation is committed to helping bring a breakthrough solution, Aquablation therapy, to our region, making UNC Health Pardee the only clinic in Western North Carolina to offer this advanced, robotic-assisted treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Unlike traditional options, Aquablation is the only image-guided and personalized procedure for BPH, allowing each treatment to be tailored to the patient’s specific prostate anatomy.

“This precision means we can treat a wide range of prostate shapes and sizes more effectively,” explains Dr. Dominic Grimberg of Asheville Urological Associates, who will perform the procedures at Pardee. “By using a robotic waterjet, without heat or electricity, we can spare critical structures tied to sexual function and reduce side effects during recovery.”

This minimally invasive approach also results in shorter downtime, less discomfort, and longer-lasting relief compared to older therapies. With its remarkably low rates of retreatment, Aquablation offers patients an opportunity to restore their quality of life, not just temporarily, but for the long term.

To bring Aquablation to Pardee, we need to raise $535,000, which will fund the acquisition of the equipment and the training required to deliver this specialized care.

Just like the women we love —our fathers, husbands, brothers, and friends — deserve access to the best care, right here, close to home.

Help Pardee Hospital Foundation bring the breakthrough solution of Aquablation therapy to UNC Health Pardee. We will be the only clinic in Western North Carolina to offer this advanced, robotic-assisted treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
