Cutting-Edge Innovations to Fight Cancer
in Western North Carolina

When the Pardee Cancer Center opened its doors in 2016, we were motivated by the knowledge that cancer treatment works best when it’s local. Research suggests that traveling long distances for cancer care leads to a higher incidence of trips to the emergency room and hospital admissions for patients.

In partnering with Pardee Hospital Foundation, you play a key role in the fight against cancer. The oncologists, hematologists, and Cancer Care Navigators—registered nurses who provide the necessary support and guidance for our patients from initial diagnosis to survivorship—at Pardee Hospital make providing the latest in cancer treatment to Henderson and its surrounding communities a reality.

Breakthrough Cancer Treatments Supported by the Pardee Hospital Foundation

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy

In 2021, the dedicated physicians at Pardee Hospital added Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) as a treatment that greatly improves health outcomes for cancer patients. SBRT delivers high doses of radiation to extremely precise locations, allowing the doctors at Pardee to more accurately pinpoint and eradicate tumors. Compared to conventional radiation therapy, SBRT offers both less and better treatment.

Breast Cancer Screenings

Pardee Hospital has been at the forefront of new technologies in the proactive and preventive treatment of breast cancer. From innovative surgical techniques such as Breast Seed Localization to 3D mammography, the doctors at Pardee Hospital have been pioneers in women’s breast health.

The Pardee Hospital Foundation has also played an integral role in supporting breast health for women in our community. Our Mobile Mammography Program provides women in Henderson and its surrounding counties with onsite, early detection for breast cancer, while our Women Helping Women supports delivering diagnostic mammograms to women who require financial assistance for medical care.

Life-Saving Heart and Vascular Care
in Henderson County

As the #1 cause of death in the United States, Pardee Hospital has made combating heart disease a top priority. In recent years, population growth in Western North Carolina has required us to develop robust responses to meet the demand for interventional vascular treatment, along with 24/7 life-saving cardiac care for those suffering a heart attack in Henderson, Polk, Transylvania, and Buncombe counties.

The Pardee Hospital Foundation prides itself on supporting the work of our cardiologists and vascular surgeons who serve as the primary (and, in many cases, only) doctors in the region offering immediate care for patients with cardiac emergencies.

Cardiac Care Supported by the Pardee Hospital Foundation

STEMI CARE

Your gifts to the Foundation literally save lives. Pardee’s recent designation as a 24/7 ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) care provider makes us the only hospital in the region able to handle serious heart attacks. Past donations gave us the resources to offer round-the-clock coverage for residents in Henderson, Transylvania, and Polk counties experiencing a cardiac emergency. Now, the people in these counties can be transported to Pardee for interventional heart procedures in which seconds can be a matter of life or death.

Advanced Vascular Treatment

Pardee Hospital’s Heart and Vascular team believes in the least invasive treatments for cardiac illnesses. To this end, Pardee possesses a complete catheterization lab committed entirely to the treatment of coronary heart disease. Providing unparalleled cardiac care from diagnosis to rehabilitation is the aim of Pardee Hospital Heart and Vascular.

Run, Jump, and Play
with Pardee Orthopedics

Pardee Hospital’s nationally-recognized orthopedics team focuses on restoring the mobility and quality of life of its patients. From minimally-invasive surgery to repair hips, knees, elbows, and shoulders, to physical and occupational therapy, our orthopedic department is committed to serving the therapeutic needs of the residents of Henderson and surrounding communities in Western North Carolina.

The Pardee Hospital Foundation assists the technological advancements that make our hospital’s orthopedic department among the best in the Tar Heel State.

Orthopedic Advancements that the Pardee Hospital Foundation Supports

Robotic-Assisted Spinal Surgery

Financial support from the Foundation contributed to the acquisition of the ExcelsiusGPS Spine Robot, which enables our surgeons to perform the most delicate of orthopedic procedures, making the smallest of incisions with precision.

Robotic-assisted spinal surgeries have a number of benefits including considerably faster recovery times, as well as a reduction in pain and post-surgery complications.

Andrew holds a BA in Philosophy from Sewanee and recently earned a MA in Applied Arts & Sciences from the Liberal and Interdisciplinary Studies program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Andrew previously served the Henderson Country community as an Advancement Analyst at nearby Kanuga Conference Center, where he was responsible for donor database administration, prospect research, and raising funds in support of a $15M capital campaign centered on a comprehensive renovation of the then-47-year-old Kanuga Lake Inn. Andrew looks forward to helping advance the mission of UNC Health and Pardee Hospital Foundation across the Western North Carolina region, and particularly in Transylvania County.
