Building a Healthier Future:
Strengthening Community Connections in 2025

Dear Friends,

As we look ahead to 2025, our team, board of directors, and volunteer committees are energized by the opportunities to deepen our connection with the community through a robust calendar of events and initiatives. These gatherings are designed to celebrate the impact of our donors, encourage volunteer participation, re-engage with supporters, and ensure that the programs at UNC Health Pardee continue to grow and thrive.

This year, we are excited to bring back several signature events, including the Spring Soirée at Kenmure, the popular She Slays 5K benefiting the Cancer Center, and the Women Helping Women Luncheon in the fall, (not to be confused with the rescheduled 2024 luncheon this Friday, January 24th).

In addition, we are planning new, more intimate gatherings like the Moving Mountains Donor Reception and a special Cancer Center event, which will highlight the growth and impact of Pardee’s Oncology Services while engaging both longtime and new supporters.

Other upcoming initiatives include a Circle of Caring Scholarship Dinner, creating a meaningful opportunity for our inaugural scholarship recipients to share their stories and inspire others, and Planned Giving Seminars designed to empower donors with the tools to leave a legacy of care. We are also exploring creative ideas, such as a Sharing & Caring Appreciation Event for our Pardee teammate giving program.

Whether through large-scale events, smaller gatherings, or connections with civic clubs and churches, our goal remains simple: to strengthen relationships that ensure the continued excellence of UNC Health Pardee.

Every event we plan and every initiative we launch is made possible by your generosity, your active involvement, and your belief in our mission. Thank you for standing with us and for playing a vital role in shaping a healthier, stronger future for our community.

In partnership,

A Mother’s Tribute Brings Hope to Cancer Patients

Local resident Alice Betts recently made a heartfelt gift to Pardee Hospital Foundation to support UNC Health Pardee’s Cancer Center, enabling the purchase of a state-of-the-art infusion pump. This essential device ensures chemotherapy drugs are delivered at precise doses and speeds, offering patients a more controlled and effective treatment experience.

Alice’s generous donation was made in memory of her late son, Christopher “Chris” Andrew Betts, who passed away in August 2024 at the age of 58 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Hendersonville, Chris was a gifted artist whose creativity touched countless lives. From intricately crafted walking sticks and jewelry boxes to awe-inspiring sand sculptures and whimsical burn barrels, his artistic spirit was boundless. Beyond his talent, Chris was known for his deep love for his family, his adventurous spirit, and his ability to find joy in life’s simple pleasures, like watching a sunrise or petting every dog he met.

Chris’s journey with cancer was difficult, but his legacy of love, laughter, and creativity continues to inspire those who knew him. Alice’s decision to honor her son by supporting the Cancer Center reflects her deep commitment to helping other families facing similar challenges.

This infusion pump will serve as a vital resource for patients undergoing chemotherapy, ensuring they receive the best possible care close to home. Through Alice’s gift, Chris’s memory will live on, bringing hope and healing to others in the community.

Rugby Middle School Students Lead  Heartfelt Effort to Give Back to Pardee

When Rugby Middle School students decided to organize a fundraiser, they set their sights on more than just raising money—they wanted to show gratitude. Through the sale of Women Helping Women (WHW)-themed T-shirts, these students and their families raised $405 for Pardee Hospital Foundation’s WHW initiative, which provides critical breast cancer screenings and treatments for uninsured and under insured women.

This student-led effort was not just about giving back; it was a testament to the deep connection between the school and UNC Health Pardee. As a public healthcare provider, Pardee consistently supports local schools through sponsorships, athletic trainers, and more.

Learn how this campaign highlights just one example of the extraordinary spirit of giving and the powerful relationship between Henderson County Public Schools and Pardee Hospital.
