This cutting-edge technology—the Da Vinci Xi system—has significantly enhanced patient outcomes, reducing post-operative pain and speeding up recovery times. It empowers our skilled surgeons to perform more precise and less invasive procedures, directly benefiting our patients.
Over the last year, Pardee successfully completed approximately 330 robotic cases, with its urology services alone surpassing 500 cases. By utilizing the Da Vinci Xi robot, lithotripsy, laser therapy, cryotherapy, ultrasound-guided treatments, and MR Fusion technology, patients receive the most advanced and minimally invasive treatment options available.

The Legacy of Volunteers at UNC Health Pardee by Bailey Huff, Manager for Pardee Volunteer Services
I recently discovered a small wooden box tucked away in a room. Inside was a time capsule filled with notebooks, pictures, and mementos, revealing the history of UNC Health Pardee. This organization, known for healing and compassion, has roots deeply intertwined with volunteers.
When I joined Pardee in 2023, I learned about its origins at Patton Memorial Hospital. In the early 1900s, a yellow fever epidemic hit, prompting a group of determined women to form the Flower Mission in 1905. This group laid the foundation for what we now know as Volunteer Services, ultimately leading to the creation of Patton Memorial Hospital. |
|
|
In 1951, two years before the hospital's first expansion, board member Georgiana Lane formed the Women’s Auxiliary of Patton Memorial Hospital. This group empowered residents to participate actively in their community’s health. A book from this time, found in the hidden box, recorded a check for $631.25 on August 23, 1951, highlighting the financial contributions of volunteers. Fundraising through rummage sales and membership dues were vital sources of support.
The box also contained hundreds of photos, some undeveloped, showing large groups of volunteers and community gatherings. These images painted a mural of community support, showcasing volunteers selling handmade toys, celebrating service milestones, and learning new ways to support the hospital.
Despite the passage of time, the expansion of the hospital, and the challenges brought by events like COVID-19, the dedication of our community’s volunteers has remained unwavering.
Their passion for serving Pardee has not faltered. Today, they continue to take on various roles, from making patient rounds to offering clerical services, guided by their unwavering desire to support the hospital. Pardee Hospital Foundation can always use volunteers to help in the office or serve on one of its event committees.
Reflecting on volunteers' enduring presence, it's clear they do more than just serve—they become family. Their unwavering support sets them apart. Are you inspired by the legacy of volunteers at UNC Health Pardee? Do you want to be a part of this rich history of service and compassion? If so, we invite you to join us. |
