Supporting Our Community's Health

As a non-profit public hospital owned by Henderson County but not funded by it, UNC Health Pardee relies on community support to advance patient care, enhance technology, foster research, and support vital clinical programs. | Community Partnerships Powering Healthcare Excellence
Local Businesses Step Up to Support Pardee Hospital Foundation
As we enter the season of giving and gratitude this fall, I am thrilled to share some heartening news. The number of local businesses stepping up to host third-party events in support of our Foundation continues to grow. These efforts go beyond backing our Women Helping Women Initiative; they support the very mission of the Pardee Hospital Foundation—to raise funds and awareness for our beloved community hospital, UNC Health Pardee.
This surge in community partnership is a testament to the spirit of support that has been a cornerstone of Pardee’s history. Our hospital was founded on the principles of an involved, supportive, and engaged community, and these values are alive and well today. When businesses, both large and small, get involved in this way, it allows the Foundation to continue operating in a fiscally responsible and lean manner. These partnerships play a crucial role in advancing healthcare excellence across the communities we serve.
In this issue, you’ll find more information on how to become a business partner or host your own event. I also encourage you to support the businesses listed below, who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to our cause.
Additionally, a quick reminder—tickets for the October 18th Women Helping Women Luncheon are selling fast. Be sure to secure yours soon! Finally, please be sure to read the news regarding our new Inpatient Dialysis Care Services. Patients requiring frequent weekly hemodialysis have been asking for this, and UNC Health Pardee is thrilled to now provide the inpatient option. As always, we are deeply grateful for your continued support. Together, we are making a difference in the health and well-being of our community.

| Providing a Warm Welcome to our Tiniest Patients We Asked, You Delivered
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Women and Children’s Department at UNC Health Pardee has now purchased a new Panda Infant Warmer.
In the moments after the birth of a newborn, this essential equipment plays a crucial role in regulating body temperature and ensuring these tiny patients remain safe and warm during those critical first moments. The Panda Infant Warmer is used in every birth, providing a secure environment for newborns while facilitating essential care steps like footprinting and banding.
Our donors responded to the request for support last month, enabling Pardee to directly enhance the quality of care for our community’s newborns, thus giving each baby the best possible start in life.
This achievement highlights the powerful impact of community support, ensuring that Pardee’s tiniest patients receive the warmth and care they need. Thank you! |

The Women Helping Women (WHW) Luncheon is now less than six weeks away! While tickets are going fast, there are still sponsorship opportunities available for this signature event, taking place on Friday, October 18th at the Blue Ridge Community College Conference Hall.
Now in its 27th year, WHW Luncheon raises critical funds to support women in need of necessary medical care, bridging the financial gaps they may face in their most vulnerable moments. This year’s luncheon will feature Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and cancer survivor Sharon Delaney McCloud as the keynote speaker. Sharon, who also serves as Director of Corporate Communications at UNC Health, is deeply involved in the community and passionate about empowering women through her personal and professional experiences.
Since its inception in 1997, the WHW program has grown into a powerful force for change in our region, beginning with a focus on raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of mammograms. Today, its impact has expanded to address a broader range of women's health challenges, offering both emotional and financial support to women in need. Don’t miss out on your chance to attend or sponsor this impactful event. Secure your tickets now, or explore how you can support the 2024 WHW Luncheon through a sponsorship. | Pardee Now Provides Comprehensive Inpatient Care for Dialysis Patients
In partnership with Mountain Kidney and Hypertension Associates and DaVita, UNC Health. Pardee is pleased to announce the launch of its inpatient dialysis program. This new service allows the hospital to provide hemodialysis for patients admitted for ongoing care, ensuring they receive comprehensive treatment without transferring to another facility. Hemodialysis is essential for patients whose kidneys can no longer filter blood effectively. The treatment involves using a machine to perform the kidney's work, removing waste and excess fluid from the blood. Typically, hemodialysis is required multiple times a week, each session lasting several hours. Previously, patients undergoing regular hemodialysis at a clinic, such as a DaVita location, had to seek care elsewhere if they needed hospitalization for unrelated issues, like a broken bone. Now, Pardee can provide the necessary hospital care and hemodialysis treatments, ensuring our patients receive the full spectrum of care they need under one roof. We are excited to continually expand care and enhance convenience to better meet the needs of the communities we serve! |

Men have an increased chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer as they age. Other risk factors include racial and ethnic background and family history. Compared with white men, black men are more likely to develop prostate cancer in their lifetime and twice as likely to die from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institute of Health. “Men should talk with their provider about their risk factors and discuss when prostate screening is recommended,” Little added.
If screening is right for you, then be sure to take advantage of the free Screenings on Sept. 17th
