Pardee Cancer Education Series a Success

At the end of last year, as we were looking at plans for the new Pardee Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, we asked ourselves how we could share this exciting news with the community. Thus, we developed the idea to host a Cancer Education Series during the month of February.

The Cancer Education Series was designed to inform, educate and engage the community about the existing cancer program at Pardee, the new Cancer Center, and open up discussion about treatments, technology and healing. Participants were invited to join us at the Flat Rock Cinema, the first four Mondays in February, for a lunch and learn discussion.

Topics included: An Introduction to the Pardee Cancer Program and the Comprehensive Cancer Center; The Cancer Research Program at Pardee; Oncology:Hematology and Radiation; and Healing and Survivorship. Each talk hosted a variety of expert panelists who work in the cancer field on some level: surgery, treatment, research, navigation and healing. Each offered a unique perspective and an opportunity for the public to better understand the program at Pardee Hospital as it exists today, and as it’s being planned for in the future.

As the cancer education series wrapped up at the end on February, it was, by all accounts, a great success. More than 120 community members gathered to hear from Pardee oncologists, surgeons, navigators, health educators, cancer research nurses, and a palliative care social worker with Four Seasons as they discussed the cancer program, and what the new Center means to patients and our community.

We would like to thank all who participated and shared their knowledge with our community, as well as those who attended the event.
