In 1951, two years before the hospital's first expansion, board member Georgiana Lane formed the Women’s Auxiliary of Patton Memorial Hospital. This group empowered residents to participate actively in their community’s health. A book from this time, found in the hidden box, recorded a check for $631.25 on August 23, 1951, highlighting the financial contributions of volunteers. Fundraising through rummage sales and membership dues were vital sources of support.
The box also contained hundreds of photos, some undeveloped, showing large groups of volunteers and community gatherings. These images painted a mural of community support, showcasing volunteers selling handmade toys, celebrating service milestones, and learning new ways to support the hospital.
Despite the passage of time, the expansion of the hospital, and the challenges brought by events like COVID-19, the dedication of our community’s volunteers has remained unwavering.
Their passion for serving Pardee has not faltered. Today, they continue to take on various roles, from making patient rounds to offering clerical services, guided by their unwavering desire to support the hospital. Pardee Hospital Foundation can always use volunteers to help in the office or serve on one of its event committees.
Reflecting on volunteers' enduring presence, it's clear they do more than just serve—they become family. Their unwavering support sets them apart.
