To every child who has played soccer at the YMCA in the last several years, she is Coach Kiki, but to us, Kiki Matthews is so much more, including this month’s Volunteer of the Month!
Born in Syracuse, Kiki grew up in upstate New York. She moved to Cleveland, where she thrived as a Marketing Executive for several companies, most notably the Duck Tape division of Manco. While there, Kiki met and married her husband of 39 years, Vaughan. They have one son, Will. After they retired, Kiki and Vaughan moved to Hendersonville.
Always having a caring heart and love of community, Kiki has given her time and talents to several organizations, most of which improve the lives of children. In Cleveland, she invested time in the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a crisis nursery. After moving to Hendersonville, she (with her orange whistle!) is known for her involvement as a YMCA soccer referee, President of Trout Unlimited and the Henderson County YMCA, as well as serving on the Camplify and Hendersonville Country Club Boards.
Kiki became involved with Pardee Hospital Foundation after playing in our annual Tournament of Champions golf event, and has served on the committee for several years now. She not only brings experience and amazing organizational skills, but also secures a roll of branded Duck Tape for every participant each year!
Through her involvement with Hendersonville Country Club, Kiki has taken the Club’s efforts to support Women Helping Women to a whole new level. Once a ladies’ golf event, Kiki has encouraged and invited all Club women to attend and participate in their annual event. This year, not only will women and men be golfing, but the ladies will also be playing tennis, mahjong, bridge, or simply attending the luncheon. Kiki is committed to helping the Club realize their potential in supporting the Women Helping Women program through education and philanthropy.
Pardee Hospital Foundation is blessed to have our Board Chair’s “better half” as a loyal and generous volunteer. We admire her easy-going and thoughtful, yet hard-working personality, and when faced with choices, Kiki often reminds her committee, “that’s why they make chocolate and vanilla”. Thank you, Kiki, for all the many ways you support Pardee Hospital Foundation!
