This month we are honored to celebrate the truly dynamic duo behind this year’s incredibly successful Gala auction, Mrs. Galen Reuther and Mrs. Mary Heaviland.
Two of the most interesting, well-traveled, cultured, and organized women that we have ever had the pleasure to work with, we could think of no one more deserving to be recognized than Galen and Mary.
Between winters in Ottawa, Ontario, where Galen was born, and summers in Quebec, she lived in Canada until moving to Ohio in her teenage years.  A dual citizen still to this day, Galen moved to NY after college to attend design school. Her career included time with Clairol Inc. and Parsons School of Design, 15 years as a travel agent, and finally as a real estate broker and antique business owner in Vermont.  She and her husband moved to Charleston before finally coming to Hendersonville.
Historical  preservation has always been important to Galen, and has motivated her to publish three non-fiction books about Flat Rock and its surrounding area.  She has served in leadership roles on numerous committees and boards, including Historic Flat Rock and the Hendersonville Symphony.
Born in Egypt, Mary grew up in the South of England and spent many years living in Spain and the Middle East with her husband Bob, before moving to Michigan in 2012.  When Michigan grew too cold, they headed South and found Hendersonville to be a friendly reminder of a small English town and have since lived here happily.  Mary spent most of her career in education throughout Germany and Saudi Arabi and has channeled her passion for music through several volunteer opportunities in Spain and here locally with the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra. She has served on the Pardee Volunteer Services Committee, as well as a volunteer at the Garden Café.
While their stories began time zones apart, their love of our area and for Pardee Hospital brought these seemingly inseparable friends together. After meeting our very own Jim Brewer during their time with the Hendersonville Symphony, they both became involved on the Women Helping Women committee last year, and were promoted to Silent Auction Co-Chairs at this year’s Gala. When asked, both Galen and Mary will insist that having access to quality healthcare is of utmost importance to all in our community. That is why they have become such vocal ambassadors for Pardee Hospital.
To Galen and Mary, we thank you for investing your time and talents in Pardee Hospital Foundation. We are blessed by your energy and enthusiasm!
